Born 1980 in Vienna. She studied Cinéma at the Université Paris VIII and eventually graduated in Cinematography as well as Production at the Film Academy Vienna in 2015. Works as a freelance Director of Photography in the fields of feature film, documentary, experimental for cinema and television in Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Morocco and wherever a film takes her. Her first feature film "Seventeen" as DoP wins among other prizes the main prize Best Film at Max Ophüls Film Festival 2017, Audience Award Film festival Constance, Best Film by a woman Prize of Valencia Cinema Joven and is now nominated for Best Film at the Austrian Film Prize 2018. She lives in Vienna.

Sonja Rom majored in film at the DFFB Filmacademy in Berlin and at the AFI in Los Angeles. Shooting feature films in diverse genres since 1994 as a freelance cinematographer, with great pleasure in handheldstyle movies. Nominated for best camera at the German Film Academy in 2016 for Chris Kraus "Bloom of Yesterday".
