Julia Jalnasow was born 1987 in the former GDR. After graduating highschool in 2007 she started working as a projectionist and camera assistent in Munich. Between 2008 and 2014 she studied cinematography at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg as well as at the la Fémis in Paris. In 2014 she finished her studies with a diploma. Since then she shot several documentaries and fictional movies as well as TV-Series. 2014 she won the First Steps Award / Michael Ballhaus Cameraprize, in 2016 the prize for best cinematography at the IFFF Cologne and in 2017 an international Emmy for „The Braun Family". 2018 she became a Berlinale Talent and in 2023 a jury member at the first steps awards.
