Christiane Schmidt is a Berlin-based documentary filmmaker. She studied art and political science before specializing in cinematography at HFF Munich. Her film "Pădurea e ca muntele, vezi?", co-directed with Didier Guillain, follows the daily struggles of the family Lingurar over four seasons in the Romanian Carpathians—it premiered at the Berlinale Forum and won the Prize for Women Directors of Photography at IFFF Dortmund/Cologne. "Neighbors", made in collaboration with Pary El-Qalqili, uses 360° camera movements to interrogate the environments surrounding twelve refugee shelters in Germany targeted by arson attacks in 2015/2016. Her most recent film, “This Wall, This Monster“, traces the multiple scales of violence at the Polish-Belarusian border, and the people who stand up against it.
